So I got Photoshop CS6 via Adobe's new cloud subscription service. Downloaded fine, and runs fine, but can't open my 5D Mark iii RAW files. That's odd, I think, since I'm opening them with CS5.1 just fine, using the just released Camera RAW 6.7 update.

So I use the menu to check for updates for CS6 - none show up.

I go to Adobe's site and explicitly download Camera RAW 6.7 and run the installer. It reports a successful install. But CS6 still cannot open the Mark iii RAW files.

What gives here? Anyone else see this?

All Photoshop appplications use a different version of Camera Raw. CS4 used Camera Raw that had the first digit as 5 (5.XX) CS5 uses Camera Raw that starts with a 6, the latest version is 6.0.7 as you have discovered and this has been updated to work with the 5D3. CS6 uses the Camera Raw version that starts with a 7, the release version is 7.0.0 and it has not yet been updated to work with the 5D3. The Camera Raw versions are specific to each Photoshop suite. Therefore use CS5 until Camera Raw 7 is updated by Adobe, or use Adobe DNG Converter 6.7.

You need Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 to be able to open 5D Mark III files in Photoshop CS6. Since its still a Release Candidate and not a final release, it cannot be downloaded from Adobe's main website nor will the Adobe Updater prompt you to install it. You nmust get it from the Adobe Labs website and manually install it: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw7-1/ (external link)
