Incredibly windy day yesterday at Chincoteague. Didn't keep the mosquitoes at bay either. But was still a fun time. Chincoteague is always good for variety.

Like the gull picture. Looks kind of like a composite image (it's not, right?).

Thanks! Nope, not a composite. I took a series of shots of this group of gulls

Love the shots, going to run through the park in early July.

Where would you say that the best birding was?
Sadly, going to have to restrict my visit mostly to the lighthouse area (to add the lh to my collection) and the wildlife loop (so the kids have a decent chance to see the ponies)

Thanks :)

There are opportunities all over the park and most of them are completely drivable which will be good for your situation. It's a unique park in that way. You'll love it!

The main road that leads up to the beach has narrow streams on either side of it, and is usually loaded with egrets and great blue herons. That's also the road you're most likely to see the horses from as well. My wife and I usually drive up and down this road until they open the wildlife loop at 3pm.

Right before the beach one of those streams opens up into a shallow large bay area and there's a variety there. From Herons, ducks, pelicans, gulls, cormorants to king fishers and the occasional eagle or hawk.

Beach, at least right now has lots of Terns, Skimmers and all kinds of gulls.

The wild life loop (doesn't open to cars until 3pm) has herons, egrets, ducks, geese, swans, swallows and the occasional eagle. You actually won't see any horses on the wild life loop. Only the main road that leads to the beach has areas where you can view the horses on the right hand side of the road.
