A full frame Canon DSLR with the shell made of carbon fiber and titanium, let the lens be the counterweight. I am happy with my 60D but a guy can dream can't he?

Canon 60D,18-55mm,55-250mm,50mm compact macro, AF ext tubes. Sigma 8-16mm uwa, 18-250mm, 85mm F1.4, 150-500mm

i am constantly aware when there are cool cameras around but a bit embarrassed when someone comments on my gear, it is just a camera.

I will always want to handle an old Nikon F body when I see one. How many of the "great" photos of the last fourty-fifty years where captured on an F? I would enjoy pulling one out in a place where there were other photographers and seeing if it got any atention.

"Cool" depends on who's looking at it. A fellow photographer/gearhead might consider your 5DIII or 1DX "cool", but any non-photographer won't know the difference between it and an entry-level Rebel. They'd see a Leica the same as a P&S. The average person walking by you on the street would probably consider your camera more "cool" if you painted it a bunch of neon colors and attached an iPod to the bottom of it so it played music.

I had a Leica M5 back when I had to shoot city council meetings and courthouse stuff, and that was a cool camera. It was cool because it was quiet and did the job without drawing attention to itself. That being said, I'd take a Leica M9.

I'm seriously toying with the idea of going back to 4x5 B/W photography. Another Sinar P2 with Schneider glass is on the cards.

Thanks for the replies. The Nikon F body has come up a few times, though I wonder how much is sentimental value. I've no idea, I'm not judging. Medium format comes up a lot though. It's not something I've had direct experience with but I love the idea of it.

The link to the most expensive camera in the world? For that price I'd at least expect it to have been owned by HCB!

Shooting a lot of landscape photography, my "cool" camera would be a Linhof Technorama 617s III MF panoramic camera. Put that baby on a RRS BH-55 and a 5 series Gitzo and you will turn heads.

Maybe a Spectral Instruments 1100 series camera with some lovely large format glass?

I still have a Nikon F of 1969 vintage which I bought second hand in 1975. It's had a heap of use, looks a bit battered and bruised but still works well. My Nikon F started my long love affair with Nikon film cameras.
