50D value

Dont know if this is allowed on here or not, but I have a friend with a 50D in pristine condition. Body only, with box and papers, 10,268 shutter actuations. He wants $600 for it. I have seen a little lower on eBay. Just wondering if I should spring for it, he is firm on price. I am new to digital and want to do wildlife action and sports action. Thanks

$600 is on the high end of the range. On POTN, it's about $550. I bought one for $535 with about 7000 clicks. If he refuses to lower, then you are better off going for a refurb 60D from Canon. Around $650. Good for wildlife and sports.

It's in the ballpark. Looking around the F/S forum I see them at $550 all the way to $650

I think the question is also about the difference between buying from someone you know ( and you know how well, if he did, take care of his gear ) and buying it from a complete stranger.

So, if you know he took good care of it- it might be worth the cost difference- maybe.

The difference between 10,200 and 7,000 is moot- if it is not under warranty, then the shutter could go out in 3 clicks or 300,000 clicks. You never know.

takes extreme anal care....always used protectors on screen and put BACK in original box when not in use.....was hoping to get him at 550 but wont budge right now....he wants to go up to a 7D, which is what I really wanted too, but my budget is $650 tops for a starter body

In context my 60D from Canon Loyalty Prigram cost 640$ with 14 day return and 90 days warranty from Canon.
IMHO the 60D beats the 50D in most departments except on microadjust.

havent considered the 60D. That has video, right? Not really needing video (i don't think). Looking more for ease of use, and durability, I really wanted a 7D but it's above my budget and probably a larger learning curve than the 50D.

plus I am a sport and AVID wildlife action nut, and most recomend the 50D or 7D for that tpye of action......spend a lot of time in the woods and college football sidelines.

Is that action enough for you?

that's not a bad price

Not a bad price, but rather high for so many actuations. Sold mine which had over 20,000 for about $550.

would love to find a 50D with a lens thrown in the deal for 500-600......never hurts to wish

If you have your mind set on a 50D then go for it, I don't want To turn your thread into a 50D vs a 60D but what ever the 50D do the 60D will do better with better IQ and better high ISO.
Now if action is your biggest concern the 7D will provide better AF and faster fps and better weather sealing.
600$ to me is on the high side of price, but if you trust your friend and how he takes care of the camera and willingness to back up the used sale, that might be something of value to you that can balance the premium you are paying.
