Hey Guys, new to the forum but a long time lurker. My 50mm tends to be my go-to lens, even though the focus (coupled with my 1000d) seems to be off 70% of the time. Regardless, he's a shot from watching the Nato Hippies. ISO:800 F/2 1/200

Hmm...I have the 35L and the 85/1.8 as well as the 50/1.8 version

Do I really need this lens? I want it but recently purchased another 5D2, the 85/1.8 and a 17-40 and don't really need to spend another 350 if I don't have to...but it's enticing to have a decent prime at almost every needed focal length

Opinions might defer from mine, but if you are satisfied with a build quality of your nifty-fifty, I would suggest to stick with it. You won't notice any dramatic upgrade in term of IQ with 50/1.4
I upgraded from a nifty-fifty to 50/1.4 only because I got a super great deal on a second-hand copy but otherwise would stick with a 50/1.8.

i am starting to get tired of sending this lens to Canon to repair the stuck focusing ring...i think i am on my 3rd time now.
