Shot a big show at the biggest venue in Montreal, the Bell Center. More than 18 000 people in the crowd. It's Quebec's version of American Idol, more than half of the province was following the tv shows. It was the premiere and I got to shoot the red carpet also. Great experience :D

Enough talk, here are the 60D shots! It's either the 16-35 or the beast!

I think the end result is very good but the exif makes it look like you were a little overly conservative with shutter speed. You could of saved yourself at least a stop or 2 worth of iso by slowing it down a bit. Not sure what lens you were using, but if it had IS you could double that change or more. Just a nit pick because they look pretty good regardless, at least at web resolution. I think I would of waited until the red carpet was populated tho...

Dustin, my 300mm is without IS. It has an equivalent focal lenght of 480mm. I need to keep my shutter speed high to avoid camera shake blur. And with all the special light effects, sometimes ISO 200 would have been enough, other times 1600 was required. I was shooting two bodies at a time and had a 3 songs limit to respect. I figured that staying at ISO 1600 was the best option, it looks great on the 60D. The less I can concentrate on settings while shooting, the more I can focus on the actual show and capture emotion! :)

Great captures, and I think David was using a 300mm 2.8 non IS so that's probably why he pushed the shutter and ISO higher but look at that noise control, not bad at all!

KEEP THE DUCKS COMING! and that little fat sparrow...love fat birds. <3

EDIT: David answered before me. xD

Wow David! These photos (especially w. the magnificent 300 mm) are fantastic! I wish they didn't have the 1024 pixel/side limit...

The only critique I have is that you ommitted a link to the photos with the other youknowhat.... ;)

Kev,

I really like both of your shots. The second one stands out for me because I can still see the hmmm personality of the waterfall. Sometimes, when the shutter is slowed down a lot, everything gets so smoothed out that something is lost. I realize, this is my own personal preference and others may see things completely differently.

Anyway, well done. I'd print that waterfall and hang it.

Thanks, I agree sometimes a really long shutter can blur the waterfalls features out. It's a fine line, and I go over it all the time and wish I hadn't.
