No worries. They have different prices for the refurbished cameras at Canons site. So with numbers coming in from multiple sides, and a 20% in there somewhere..it was a little hard to determine what's what. I am interested in the program but wanted to know as much as I could before calling them.

And I didn't know if they gave a credit amount for a trade in like with a used car, plus 20% off, or what.

Thanks for the help. :)

No prob. Canon doesn't actually advertise it on their website so the prices online are just for refurbished. If you multiply those prices with .80 then you'll get the canon loyalty price if you trade in a broken camera. You can always call in and ask about it too. The people are actually friendly.

I think the problem might be that eosinfo will not work on the 7D. Try http://www.eoscount.com (external link)

From page one (just in case you want to try the linux gphoto2 option for your 7D):

Thanks for the tip. I actually used eoscount and it gave me a count of 44 and that included the 21 pics I took around the house so it had 23 on it when I got it.

Thank you so much for the info on the loyalty program. I've been watching the Canon refurb site and tonight saw that the 5D MKII was again in stock. I called right away and used a dead PowerShot A560 as my trade in. She was VERY helpful on the phone and my order couldn't have been easier. My first emails from Canon came in while we were still on the phone.

I got my first entry DSLR in November (T3i) and spent my money on L-glass over the next few months. I was ready for a second body and am so thankful for this forum and all the info. I got my refurb 5D MKII for less than a new 7D. I can hardly wait for it's arrival next week!

Just utilized this program to get a 5D Mark II.
The rep I got was awesome and very helpful.

Would buy again!

If I were you, I would talk to a sales rep about this.

IIRC, their agreement for CLP progrgram states that if they don't receive the trade in from you they will charge you credit card the 20% difference in price from the refurb.

I think that would be pretty illegal actually. You are not signing anything that states that they have a right to charge you, nor it is mentioned on the phone (at least not to me). The whole transaction is done over the phone. So I would not worry about it. I never received a return label either and there are no extra charges on my card (it's been a few months since I got my 60D). If you think about it, it may actually save Canon some money - after all they don't have to pay for shipping your old broken camera back to them just to be destroyed and it moves their inventory of refurbished units. I am not saying that this is the norm, but I doubt that they will charge extra if the label was not provided and nothing was mentioned about sending my broken camera back.

What a bummer. I was FINALLY able to sign into my Canon account, and noticed my order's status was Shipment Pending. Apparently if they need to verify something they flag your order, and someone should call you right away. The admin person I spoke to said since it was a 3 day weekend they are playing catchup, and someone should have called me already. She apologized, and upgraded my shipment to overnight to receive on Monday... unfortunately I won't have it for the weekend like I planned. :(

Figured I'd let you guys know in case you run into any of the problems that I ran into. It's difficult being patient with a new toy on the way!

I ordered today and received my confirmation e-mails (and return shipping label) before I even hung up the phone! I didn't even provide them with a serial number for the return item yet (I didn't have it on me at the time - had to get it from camera which was at home).
