3DZukini,

Carbon Copy Cloner can be found here (http://www.bombich.com/ (external link)). It is free (Donation ware) and is cloning my mac as I type.

Well I had a blast shooting a dog agility event today! Was using the 70-300 and met a very nice lady with a 7D and a 70-200 and a 100-400, and she let me try out both lenses and borrow one at a time for the event! :D

I am absolutely in love with the 70-200 for action photography and it is now on my wish list, but the 100-400 was slow as hell for focusing. I did not like that one at all other then the fact that it has a range of 400mm which can he handy at times.

Anyway, here is one of the many pictures I got saturday, and hopefully I will be making money off of some of these shots.

Also, I need some advice on what to charge for a single shot portrait of 2 friends with their r/c airplane. I was already at the event, She asked me if I could do this real quick for her, took all of 5 minutes maybe, and its just 1 digital photo. I am sending the full size digital and want to know what to charge. She is also a friend, so I don't want to charge her too much.

Sounds like this would make a nice gift for a very good friend.

3 of my shots yesterday with my Canon 60mm macro

a little story on the lady... (don't know her)
she was like "oh nice camera, what model is that?"
I said "the 60D"
she was "never heard of that, I have 40D, is that a new one?"

and then i said "Yes, Can i take a picture of you if you don't mind?"

there she is...

told her i can email her the picture "She said, it's ok you can post it anywhere"

the guy is one of our model... just happened to saw him yesterday when i walkaround.

i use carbon clone here on my macbook pro. back it up at least twice a week to an external hard drive so in the event of hard drive failure, i can slap another hard drive in and restore it to within a few days of my last back up.

I do something similar. I have a restore disk but also back up to a large internal drive. Allows me to restore everything on my computer with just a few clicks. Much better than the previous method where I restored the computer and then had to reload all the original programs, etc.

it's good you had it saved. for me, i do 2 things. one backs up the files and folders and stuff, so i can move them to other machines if i wanted to and the other clones the hard drive itself with everything included, and i can boot off of the external hard drive if i needed to and it acts just like the internal hard drive. carbon copy cloner saved my butt and hours and hours of work twice now. i won't own a mac without having that in place. mac has time machine but for me that doesn't even come close to matching what carbon copy cloner does. in about one hour i have a perfect clone of what my machine was before a crash, including bookmarks, files, folders, software...everything. it's a good thing ;)

Mmmm, I have to check out 'Carbon Copy.' Does the same thing I do now but might be a bit easier.

Can't beat the price but alas, it won't run on windows.

thanks David.

I edited the skin of the second pics only but very minimal. The 1st and 3rd pics are pretty much SOOC. Just added a little contrast using level(shadows: 12 highlights: 240)

the Canon EF-S 60mm Macro rocks.

I've been relying on Time Machine to save me... worked once when internal HD failed under warranty and I was able to restore almost entirely from Time Machine. But it sounds like I'll have to look into Carbon Copy Cloner, I like the idea of replacing a failed drive with a fresh drive and having an exact copy in place. How easy is Carbon Copy to use and how much does it cost? I'm planning on ordering one of the new Mac Pros when they get announced soon and I want to plan out keeping important stuff backed up good from the start. I'm planning a SSD for the main drive, so it won't be too large. Will Carbon Copy make a disk image file s I have an exact copy of a working setup, all software installed?
Sorry for the off-topic, but you guys happened to be discussing something related to my current plans. I love my 60D! ;)

It's freeware although they mention donations are always welcomed and it's ridiculously easy to use. As I said it has saved my butt twice now. Alas as Hinson pointed out its Mac based only right now.

"Windows Easy Transfer" saves so much... desktop, folder styles, "My Pictures" & "My Music" which hold Lightroom settings & iTunes playlists for example.

Cobian Backup (Link) (external link) is free and I have mine set to a differential backup for certain stuff every 600 minutes to an external drive so if the place is on fire or Godzilla is attacking I can snatch it easy and stuff it in a pocket.

Then of course I just made an Image of Win 7 (Link) (external link) with all its updates & Adobe stuff and little more so the next time will be easy as pie.

Love my 60D !
