Great shots here again, I especially love the air show photos, can't wait to go to air shows this summer.

Here are a few shots testing the Servo AF with a Sigma 1.4x TC. These geese were heading towards me at about 30-40 mph. Shot with my 7D

And here are some other shots from the last few days. Shot with 7D and Sigma extenders (either 1.4x or 2x)

NOTE: the last 3 are about 75% crops (from 2x tc shots), they were far away (Spotted Sandpiper, Simpalmated Plover and the RWBB harassing the egret)

Gabe, the shots of the geese are amazing!!!!
Q- You notice any difference in sharpness, contrast, focus speed, when you compare it on all 3 cameras you own?

Bought this lens for my d800...took it home..unboxed...focus doesn't work, slips. Sigh. Back to the store today. Pretty sure it was the only copy they had, too--I am having the worst luck with Sigma stuff on my Nikon...tried 50-500 first, was sharp but would error out and say f/90 or f/0 and freeze the camera. lol. /cry. Maybe i'll have the store get me another copy, don't know what to do :(

There isn't much of a difference in AF speed between my cameras. Probably the T3i is a little slower, I can't measure it, I think it's just that I believe the 7D and 1DII is supposed to be faster than the T3i :)

Sharpness, 7D is most often sharper than T3i since I can micro focus adjust. Nothing major, the difference is tiny but with the tc it may be necessary to shift the focus by a couple units.

The 1DII is sharp because it is only an 8mp sensor and on top of that it's only a 1.3x factor. Basically the same sensor and pixels as the 5D classic only in different size. The bottom line is that is doesn't put too much magnification stress on any lens.

Love that middle one!

Edit: just got back from store, got my replacement one, this one works great, lol. Unfortunately it's raining outside like crazy. Hopefully will be nice outside and can go find some birds. Man, this thing seems great, lol. For now, obligatory cat pic lol, and the background at the top right isn't the lens' fault...its a wicker thingy with a bunch of diagonal pieces of wicker in an ugly pattern--it's amazing it looks as good as it does. Love the way this destroys the background.

What is the general consensus for the best 2x teleconverter to use on this lens? (I currently have a canon 2x II extender and kenko 2x MC4 DGX that work very well [even stacked]on my 200mm 2.8L II and 7D)

Pentax K1 MKii, Panasonic G9, Panaleica 100-400, Samyang 12mm F2 NCS CS, 7Artisans 7.5mm f2.8 fisheye, Panagor 90mm f2.8 Macro (OM), Canon 200mm f4 Macro FD, Sigma APO 2x DG EX TC, Tiffen aXent ND 3.0 (ND1000) filter, Olympus OMD E-M5(drown in the Atlantic), Oly 14-42mm, Oly 12-50mm, ZEQ25gt Mount, plus a few other lenses, extension tubes, and general mish-mash

I've used it with an old Kenko MC7, which was ok, decent center sharpness, significant CA, but wasn't 2x, probably 1.85x. Then I tried a Kenko MC4 DGX, which was not very good, not better than the MC7. Then I bought my current Sigma 2x APO EX DG. It was much better than the Kenkos, very sharp, average amount of CA. Then came a Canon 2x III. It was nice, good center sharpness and relatively good corners. What was best about it was the lack of CA, that thing handles fringing extremely well. But it wasn't sharper than the Sigma , in fact I had more images where the Sigma had a tiny bit better center sharpness than the Canon III. Corners were a bit better on the Canon III. CA was visibly better on the Canon III.
But then I needed money and so I sold the Canon III and kept the Sigma, which overall I very much like. Recently I've purchased a Sigma 1.4x APO EX DG and that is awesome, surprisingly a bit sharper than my Kenko Pro 300 DG was, and I thought that was a pretty good tc.

The Canon 2X III is a smidgeon better than the Sigma 2X, but it's very marginal and probably not worth the extra cost.

Some new shots from this weekend. All but the eagle was with the 2x extender (Sigma). The eagle was shot with my 1.4x Sigma and is a very heavy (80%?) crop.

All of them 7D, cropped and processed.
