Gabe, you have very noise free images! I read your workflow, its impressive. Do you apply noise reduction to the whole image, and sharpen just the feathers? Or do you just selectively apply noise reduction to the background.

I'm not sure what I'm more jealous of, Gabe: your results with the 2x or that you live in a part of the world with such lovely birds.

Good stuff Gabe. :-)

Would you say this is the best lens for bird photography you have owned?

Yes it is, although not the most comfortable :)

But sometimes I actually shoot with my 70-200 2.8 OS + 2x TC, but that happens only when I know that my outing is more like a walk in the park or by the river with my fiancee (and not just sitting at one place for 4 hours with a tripod) :)

How fast is the FA on this lens compared to the Canon 70-200F2.8?

600mm f4 at this price (with the 2xTC) is very cheap.

Especially when I look at what you are managing to squeze out of this lens.

Very impressed with it.

Something I would like to pick up in the long term future, budget does not allow that now unfortunately.

Mark :-)

Go look at the price of the 500 F/4 L IS Mark II or the 600 F/4 L IS Mark II
and then say that :-P

Does the 300mm with a 2xTC drop two stops?

Ah...

But that is still pretty good...

Coupled with the high iso of the 5d3, that would be a very good combination.
