...I took my camera along to get some shots of the water birds which live next to the small lake adjacent to the dealership. The garage is several miles outside Leicester and as there was little else to do to fill the time, it seemed like a good idea :)

View of the lake from the showroom:

Juvenile Merganser? not sure about this one, any thoughts?:

One doesn't always get such service at a car dealership... :) Very nice shots Mark, I was wondering if the last image was of the grebe family.

That's a real nice pond you have there, Mark! Nice cars too... :)
A fine set of images. I especially like the young coot in the grass and the last one. Like Dave I am thinking Grebe. More specific a Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis). Could that be right you think?

No wonder you've been getting all these great images. Look at your CAR! It is like a moving blind with all those open shooting windows.

Some very nice images there, Mark! I'm going to go with Levina on the Little Grebe ID for the last one...we don't get those over here, so I can't say for certain; but looking at ID photos that looks pretty close.

Mark, what wonderful captures. I've never seen the young of an American Coot or a Grebe of any sort before. This thread is a treat and not just because of the showroom shot.

Thanks everyone and thanks for the I.D. on the little Grebe. It'll be another ten days before I can devote any time to this forum and to taking photographs. Off on holiday with the family on Saturday and I've been working flat out to make time for that :)
