Is it a printed poster or displayed anywhere else? All adds up to how much they like to steal.

Before this thread goes down the path we all know it will go, just please, OP, remember to timely register your photos in the future. One day you'll be very happy that you did.

Many times you come home from a race with 200 to 1,000 keeper photos, not just 5 or 6. You're supposed to register 1,000 photos a week???

My pictures: John Wilke Photography (external link), Flikr (external link) , Facebook (external link), Fine Arts America (external link), Canon 1D MkII N, 1D MkIII, various Canon and Tokina lenses. :D

Do you know who did the graphics for the poster? That's the one who ultimately stole the image and Its definitely your image (or another photographer was standing right next to you and you both clicked at the exact same time) What are those chances....

I managed to contact the person who has connections to the race organizer and also responsible for the site content. Looks like I am getting my media pass on the day of the race. Just spoke to the race organizer and he said he would make it up to me (inviting me to shoot one of his races). Gee, is that how you get your connections? Waiting until the promoter stealing your works and threatening them with litigation. And you play the good guy who is doing it for the community and trying to be diplomatic about it?

I was under the impression that you have 90 days or something like that from when you find out about the infringement to register your infringed work?

I know it's a past issue, but did you watermark the original, or only for our benefit?

I know its not impossible to remove a watermark, but the level of detail they have kept in the poster makes be believe it wasnt photoshopped out.

For example - 4th rider, yellow shoes (G in IMAGING covers shoe), but the poster has a lot of detail in the shoe straps - why bother with all the detail for such a minor issue?

2nd rider is the same (T in PHOTOGRAPHY covers shoe) but there is too much detail in the poster.

Why would you settle for so less?! You can get few thousands easily I think.

Few thousands??? Maybe. I would do that if I have no concerns about the events and people I photograph. I don't burn bridges unless I have no intentions to cross it again....:)

I did watermark it. Again, they did a good job. Again, the way the poster is rendered, it is hard to see imperfection. Look at the facial expressions and positions of rider 4th and 5th. They are identical to my shot.

I did an overlay in PS, and is definitely your shot, no question. I just cant see why they would go to all the trouble of putting such insignificant details of the straps and logos back into the shoes

You could, just the pro races. Maybe those you have them up, 200 shot maybe??? I am sure you don't really mind if your local cat4 lifting photos off your site. That tends to lead to more sales.

I doubt you would see a few thousand and its probably not worth waiting years for through the courts. Sounds like you got what you wanted which was the press pass.
