shooting tough mudder

has anyone shot tough mudder, specifically the tri-state course? i have a few friends running this year, so i thought id go down there and take some shots. planning on renting the 70-200 2.8 II, but wondering if i can get away with my 24-105, depending on how close spectators are to the course

You can shoot with whatever lens you have ...11mm through 400mm. You just have to position yourself appropriately. I'm sure you can get great shots with any lens if you keep your eyes open and act fast!

No, I've never shot a mud event, but it shouldn't be any different than any other.

I don't see how you would be able to avoid it. If you MUST stay clean, then bring a 300mm or longer.

If it will be during the day, rent the 100-400 anyway. You'll need the reach.

I don't know if it's any different... I have shot a Muddy Buddy event before and my position was where the people came out of a massive mud pit to dash to the finish. Full on rain gear was required for all equipment and I looked like I ran through the mud pit myself at the end of the race.
