Tethered Shooting?

I have a laptop with windows 7, Lightroom and PS CS2 and the 1D Mark II N and I have seen people shoot and the photo show up on the laptop as they shoot. I want to be able to do this so I can get full size previews on my laptop during shoots.

My question is what programs or items do I need to do that? Are there any free software to do this or do I have what I need and just need instructions on how to do it.

I am sure this has been covered but I am not having luck finding it with my setup, I also have the usb cable to go from camera to PC, I have other cables that came with the 1D but my laptop only has USB ports.

Please help, I also shoot in raw if that matters.

Lightroom 4 does it without additional software. I believe LR3 needs something additional.

FWIW, I've shot tethered with my T2i connected with HDMI cable to a simple monitor (not a computer) and it worked fine. The monitor (or tv if you want) simply becomes a larger duplicate of your LCD screen.

And as my luck goes I have LR 1.4, wish a copy of 4 would fall in my lap...lol

why not use the EOS utility that comes with the camera?

Which one is that specifically?

EOS Utility is great for that if you just want to review your images. It also allows you to shoot straight to your HD instead of the memory card. I use it all the time, especially as a intervalometer.

ok I now have many of the Canon utilities including the EOS Utility, and others. My question is i have my camera connected to my laptop and the program open but still no idea what to do, any quick tips, yeah I know, read the instructions, I would but I do not have any...lol

I was just going to say the only link that it will let me click is monitor folder, the others are there but I cannot click them, any ideas why?

ok, after an internet search I deleted all my USB Controllers and rebooted and still top 3 grayed out and cannot click, i can go into the camera to see the images and move them to my laptop so the laptop recognizes the camera and the drive but its not working for some odd reason, any help would be appreciated....

Unless they have changed something lately, the 1dIIN is not compatible with Windows 7, you need an XP machine.. Then you need to find the proper WIA driver for the 1dIIN

Once you have the Utilities program for the 1DIIN, the proper WIA Driver, then you must use the Canon Firewire cable, you cannot tether through the usb cable, that is only for the printer function.

You could do a search on TetherTalk.com. They may be able to answer your question. I think they also have a list of all the tethering software options including the free ones.
