Majority of my clients come from 'gumtree' but I use FB to show my photos.
I wouldn't rely on FB to promote my work.
In all honesty, 'word of mouth' and your existency in the line of work will get you somewhere.

Because I didn't have the energy to tweet, blog, fb personal, fb business, work full time, social life, maintain portfolio, edit, be a wife, a pet mom, etc. hahaha But after seeing how some people really flourish from using fb... I've decided to pay more attn to it even though I don't really like the site. (I'm a twitter girl)
