Majority of my clients come from 'gumtree' but I use FB to show my photos.
I wouldn't rely on FB to promote my work.
In all honesty, 'word of mouth' and your existency in the line of work will get you somewhere.

Thanks everyone. I'm starting to use my FB page now. For a while it just sat. Because I didn't have the energy to tweet, blog, fb personal, fb business, work full time, social life, maintain portfolio, edit, be a wife, a pet mom, etc. hahaha But after seeing how some people really flourish from using fb... I've decided to pay more attn to it even though I don't really like the site. (I'm a twitter girl)

If you don't have many likes etc then that kinda tells you what facebook is like for marketting.

I've 11,000 and hardly rushed off my feet. Put your energy elsewhere,

Contests have got me up to 2100 likes. Ads are a good way, but the first contest I ran for a free engagement session got me 800 or so, some left, but more joined.
