Just wondered should there have been a Hotshoe cover in the box?

Or has anyone seen these as a Canon accessory?

By hotshoe cover I mean the slide on covers you used to get on old MInolta Film DSLRs. Just seems strane to have all this weather proofing etc. and leave the hotshoe contacts open to rain and dust.
Just thinking of beach shots and sand?

No I don't believe one came in the box (I didn't get one) & I haven't seen anything aftermarket but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

It is not on the list of "what's in the box," and I don't recall anyone ever mentioning one. Just something else to lose?;)

Canon do not supply hotshoe covers with modern cameras.
In the hotshoe is a tiny switch that detects whether a shoe mounted flash is fitted, if a hotshoe cover is in place this triggers the switch and prevents the pop-up flash from opening.

Here is a link to one that will not trigger the switch in the hot shoe.
For a 7D, you want model: CHSC-ND

You can always use a Nikon cover. It fits.

EOS series 40D, 50D, 5DMKII, 7D, 1DMKIII, 1DsMKIII, 1DMKIV -- CHSC-ND.

I have one of those covers for my 7D. It snaps into place, fits perfectly, and is designed to allow the pop-up flash to operate while in place.

Not exactly. It doesn't fit in very flush...

Also, the Nikon one will trigger a switch in your hotshot that will make your camera think you have a flash attached.
