This is where having a little camera like the S100 comes in handy for me...when your kid says "how do you like my hat Pop?" Joined the club! :D

BTW...How how do you guys go with the ISO and still feel like you get a clean image (assuming you have some software to tidy it up)? Thanks

As far as needed. I'd rather have a noisy image than no image or a blurred one.

I won't shoot any higher then ISO 800 as you get noise, but you still get a decent image. Depending on how important your picture is. Something special I will shoot under 800, But normally I like to keep it at 400 or below.

True, but I was wondering how high people feel you can go and still get an acceptably clean image.

This is the answer I was looking for, thanks. This seems to be about on par with the G I used to have.

idsurfer a couple of sites have good comparison features. dpreview is one. this is a link to another.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM (external link)

I had a G11, and needed to replace it with an LX5....I did; I was disappointed in my choice. When I replaced the LX5 (because I hated it with electronic view finder attached), I looked at images produced by others, and used the site from that link to compare images shot at high iso.

What a difference a year makes. I'm back looking again.

They have studio images for the Sony RX100. I'm very interested in that camera, provided Sony makes it easy to change white balance, iso, lens aperature and shutter speed.

Here's a picture i just took (right now im enjoying the subject :P)

ISO 1000. RAW, processed with lightroom and even pushed up the exposure a bit which should make it even noisier. I applied a little bit of NR.

100%;

oh, and there is even a bit of motionblur, due to the 1/20 and my not so steady hand.
