Ahhhhh, I like this thread already :)

A bit background info, I left for two weeks on tour with a dj, a videographer and a video editor, all great friends. Damn we had such a good time, partys, free alcohol, hotel rooms, camping on the beach and let's not forget girls!

Anyway too much talk, here's a shot of the milky way while we were camping on the beach for four days. Skys we're very friendly and very little light pollution! (5DmkII):

I really like that pic. Stupid newb question, but what settings did you do on that shot? When I go star gazing and there are city lights around I get washed out. I go up in the mountains by us and am fairly far away from the city, but I'm guessing I just need to venture out farther.

I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.

his shot info says 30 sec, f/2.8, ISO 3200, at 16mm

I live in a small city and have yet to capture 'anything resembling' this amount of detail... I need deep country!

Will is right, we were pretty far up north! I'd say at least 6 hours of drive from the closest big city, which must be around 10 000 people living there. The city we were in had barely 1000 habitant.
