How can I tell if a person from another country has passed away?

I know this might seem bizarre, but I need your help.

A German acquaintance of mine has stopped replying to my emails, and I am beginning to wonder if he may have died. (It's been months since I last received a reply.)
Is there any way to investigate this? Are there any POTN members from Germany that might be willing to lend a hand here?

Thanks in advance guys.

Already tried. I get a few hits, but nothing really up to date.

Try his name along with the word obituary in the search. That usually brings up the info you seek.

Do you know where he lives (lived)?

The town hall in his "burg" may be able to help via email.

If you know where he lives, the German Consolate can probably help you as well.

I know where he lives. (Or at least, I know his Paypal address, as I did business with him awhile back.)

Who or what is the German Consolate, if you don't mind me asking?
