I'm going in circles on this. In the past, picasa would allow me to view thumbs of my raw files and give me a "slideshow" if I double clicked on a picture. But with the new 5d3, picasa has not updated the program to work with these new files.

I've downloaded Canon's codec pack.
I've downloaded Microsoft's codec pack.
I've downloaded windows live gallery, which gives me a slideshow preview, but no thumbnail preview.

I would really like to be able to view the thumbs in windows explorer. I have Win 7 64 bit. Anyone know what else to do?

Until updates come down the pipes, just use the Canon software. ZoomBrowserEX is a "light" viewer, and then there is Digital Photo Professional with the Raw processor. I'm sure there are others out there but the Canon software is right on hand!

What are you using to process/develop your Raw files?

I tried the demo and it worked well, allowing Windows explorer to show the thumbnails. That was with the 600D, but they have a demo and you can try it to check it is Ok with your model.

I use Lightroom 4.

OK, I prefer to view my photos in LR but I don't have one of the newer cameras with full-size embedded jpegs. But still to me it's just more efficient -- I plug in my card, Import into LR, and then I can view, "rate" and delete any I don't want to keep, all in the same process/workflow.

But I know there are some folks who prefer to view/"cull" photos before importing into Lightroom, to each their own:)!
