I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.
Canon 60D gripped 18-135, 10-22, 300 4L and nifty fifty.

Read the manual and try to emulate the shots with the Off Camera Flash!

Then you get into portraits!:D

The least expensive light modifier is the shoot thru umbrella. A convertible umbrella (has a removable black cover to convert it to a reflecting umbrella), a lightstand and a flash mount for the flash on the lightstand is around $70 from B&H. You can get it cheaper from Amazon, but I don't know how long they will last.

Edit: If by diffuser you are talking about the various plastic spheres and boxes that fit on the flash head (Gary Fong, Stoffen, etc) I think the consensus is that they consume battery power without offering anything more than a bounce card.

I have made the DIY Better Bounce Card and it's ok...

I've been asked to shoot some product photos for a local frozen yogurt shop.
They want me to shoot gelato in their gelato case which is glass
I assume no flash but shooting through curved glass will surely be weird.
Then a few shots of gelato and froyo in cups. I assume white curves paper would be a good backdrop?

Any insight would be appreciated.
