$3500 is a bit much, any idea when can we expect the price to get down to $2900~3000 with or without rebate? ;-)a

My guess would be a couple of years. Hell, if one is willing to spend 3 grand then just pony up the extr 500 and be done with it.

You can get it for approx 3100$ (3160-60) now. Why wait longer ?

Wait till it is at least the Mark 2.5 price since that is what the camera is ... apx 1 - 2 years.
But if you want it for a Mark 2 price wait 4 years.
Or just bend over and get it for $3500 now.

i have been looking at 5d3 listings on ebay for few weeks now. They have been going for $3040 to $3159 last couple of days. Plus yesterday was eBay's double buck, so you would get $100 ebay buck instead of the current $63.

Link: http://www.ebay.com …osacat=31388&LH_PrefLoc=1 (external link)

All these sellers claim US warranty but most are not listed under Canon authorized dealer list.
http://www.usa.canon.com …anonAuthorizedDealers.pdf (external link)

But still many are buying from them. Admittingly some of these sellers have notorious reputation of Up-Selling and most of their eBay ratings are from selling $2 hdmi cables etc...

Maybe they are selling at these prices because they are Grey Market? even though they claim it has US warranty?

IDK...

Does anything think we'll see a any sale due to coming 4th? if not then i guess next holiday would be labor day in september and Thanksgiving in Nov

I looked at that link you posted and it appears that the camera is from a New York based camera store. I'm in NYC all the time, and in (especially) Manhattan, there are small camera shops all over the place. The larger shops, like B&H or Adorama are authorized dealers and only sell US authorized products, with a USA warranty from the manufacturer. However, almost all of the smaller, lesser known shops do not get their inventory directly from the manufacturer. So typically, they buy the products offshore, in countries where the products are much cheaper because the manufacturers sell them cheaper to those countries. i.e., people in the Philippines, or Pakistan can't be expected to pay $3500 US for a Mark3. So Canon sells the same products at much cheaper prices in those areas of the world.

That said, non-authorized dealers here in the US will take advantage of these lower prices, and import these offshore (gray market) units here to the US. These gray market units are not warrantied by Canon USA, so if they break, the merchant will send it to whatever camera repair shop they do business with, not back to a Canon service center. As cameras become more complex, and require more advanced training and equipment to repair, a purchaser of gray market products runs the risk of inability to repair, or even misrepair, making the problem worse. I won't say that a non-Canon repair facility can't do adequate work, but the guy who fixes your camera, might be the same guy who fixes laptop computers and HDTVs too. He or she just wont be as experienced as a Canon repair facility technician.

Sorry about my run-on reply. I forgot to mention that with these Ebay sellers, keep in mind that "USA warranty" does NOT mean it is a "Canon USA" warranty.
