ljason nice pic, was that from the race in Sonoma this past weekend?

Thanks! Yes, its from Sonoma. These cars are great to shoot at that track since they move around so much. Here's another shot with the 300.

Oh yeah the race, had to watch it on TV. Had the ticket and pass but had to ditch both.
No lens...... I forgot I loaned it out...bw!
Not really but makes a great story.

Urgent Critique - I sort of like the 300mm F4L USM IS.. But - are these images sharp enough?

Most are ss( same size) some have been cropped by 20% or so. Taken on EOS 7D (cropped sensor) with various focus techniques. On Mono Pod.

Other details can be seen in the MetaData.

Images taken in RAW and adjusted micro focus to +7 - and then pp'd in Capture One .. but sharpness was turned up to 70 or 80% - am I being too fussy - or are these images just not sharp enough? All are focussed where they are supposed to be using the AF tool in DPP. (Servo Mode - Various Options.. expansion, point, zone etc)

All images are downloadable at full res (16-18Meg) Using the tab on the image at top .. actions then download photo

Please let me have some feedback.

Thanks

The images look sharp...but those batsmen seems to have lost their edge!

Seriously, I don't have time to download images but surely you can tell yourself. No use pixel peeping...this is a sharp lens and it seems you have it focussing in the correct plane...and at this magnification the images look sharp. If you don't like the focal length, that's another matter...only you can decide that!

Growing old disgracefully!

the lens won't be at it's sharpest at F4/F5. They look plenty sharp though.

Only had this lens for one day and I'm still getting used to it, so far I'm very impressed. All taken with my Canon 60D.

This lens was rockin' my world today! I've never tried shooting a sporting event before. This lens did not disappoint! Here is the 300mm f/4L IS @ f/4.5 on a 5D @ ISO 500; 1/1000 second, no IS or tripod:

The amazing hover horse shot. Go Canada!
Good long shot, though I might crop it portrait and lose the hover horse.

I kind of like the 'hover horse,' but I'm not very experienced at this sort of shooting. There was a time when there was some debate over whether horses' feet actually left the ground while galloping or not. Photography solved that!

Go Canada is right! This is our national day today. I am very happy to be Canadian.
