Just received an email from cameraworld.co.uk stating that the 24-105L I ordered is not in stock. Supplies are not expected for a few weeks. I wonder if there is a general supply problem with this lens?

park cameras and warehouse express are similar - seems there is a lot of demand.

Can't help things that Canon are providing the 24-105 as a bundle with the 5d for some packages. I've had a few shops that have that bundle in but won't split it.

I eventually found one in the Reading branch of London Camera Exhange for £750. Worth ringing a few branches to see if they have any?

They are very difficult to get hold of now. A mate of mine wanted one last week and he scanned the whole of the UK via Internet and the same story everywhere, out of stock.
Some say 3-4 weeks others say several weeks. You more likely to get one in a local store that stocks them.
I got mine with the 5D as a bundle.

I don't mind waiting a few weeks...I just wish all dealers would state the stock situation before confirming an order!

I placed an order with Park Cameras last week for this lens, they say they are expecting more stock in this week so fingers crossed as this lens is flying out the doors of camera stores right now.

I got one from Waltersphotovideo.co.uk, about 3/4 weeks ago, they also managed to get me a 70-200L 2.8 UIS which I believe are also hard to get.

There seems to be a general supply problem I order some lenses on 12 March and received the 17-40/f4 only last week and a 300/f4 a week or two before - still waiting on a 28/1.8. On the positive side a MP-E 65mm and MT24-EX came through the day after I ordered.

He is the UK I would probably want a UK warranty - A US waranty would be as gray to us Brits as a European one would be to some one in the US.

I have noticed the shortages in the UK do not seem to be an issue in the states, I presume this is because Canon have underestimated the relative demand in the UK.

Canon UK couldn't run a supply chain to save themselves. They regularly run into shortages on 17-40Ls, running out of 70-200mm f/4Ls is particularly popular and they do that one a couple of times a year. They also run out of flash guns and camera bodies from time to time. Canon UK is not at home to Mr Competent.

Pithy but poignant I suspect….

I called my supplier again today about the 28/1.8 and they can't even make a guess, the best I could get was shouldn't be too much longer. Clearly Canon don't give them any info on when to expect a shipment - I get the impression if they are lucky one turns up.
