
I think you are missing the point of why people are complaining about the photos. They're meant to represent a country at a global event and they are so far below the standard that would be expected for something like that. Sure, a lot of the anger is probably misdirected (you rightly pointed out earlier that the selection process is down to the editors) but that doesn't make the images suck any less.
I also don't think it's fair to imply that only professionals are allowed to make critiques on this collection of work. That would be like saying only restauranteurs, hoteliers and automobile manufacturers should be allowed to express their opinions on restaurants, hotels and cars respectively

Anyway, I think the images suck but it sucks that he's taking so much flack for them when clearly something beyond his control happened.
And at the risk of opening myself up to critiques, here are a couple of shots from a recent trip to Amsterdam. I was there for a programming conference, so not much time for photos.

I think all we missed were the tulips. Maybe next time
