I think you are missing the point of why people are complaining about the photos. They're meant to represent a country at a global event and they are so far below the standard that would be expected for something like that. Sure, a lot of the anger is probably misdirected (you rightly pointed out earlier that the selection process is down to the editors) but that doesn't make the images suck any less.

I also don't think it's fair to imply that only professionals are allowed to make critiques on this collection of work. That would be like saying only restauranteurs, hoteliers and automobile manufacturers should be allowed to express their opinions on restaurants, hotels and cars respectively

Anyway, I think the images suck but it sucks that he's taking so much flack for them when clearly something beyond his control happened.


And at the risk of opening myself up to critiques, here are a couple of shots from a recent trip to Amsterdam. I was there for a programming conference, so not much time for photos.

1. We saw canals,

Kev, it's not often we disagree but I guess there is a first time for everything. I was primarily talking about people on here, togs - you know, that yucky old saying about when you point a finger at someone there are 3 pointing back at you? I'm only arguing for respect and manners here. I'm afraid anyone on here seeking to consign someone to www.youarenotaphotogra​pher.com without even the most simple fact check should be questioned. That is all I am doing. No need to take cheap shots at what Cindy and I do.

And sorry mate, it wasn't meant as a cheap shot. It was meant in jest (hence the ) as I thought your complaint was about the general public and not specifically directed at photogs. I was just trying to emphasize that not everyone who has an opinion on something has to be an expert (though when I say it that way I can see why you might take offense to my 'example' ).

Question me all you like, the pictures in question sucked.. Weather the release of the images was beyond his control or not?!

Being a professional he must have know they were not upto his usual standard which looking at his website is very high. If the release was out of his control then it is indeed sad that his rep has taken a beating, if he however decided they were good to release then more fool him!

The guitar is the one instrument I'd love to have learned how to play when I was young. I've tried a couple of times to have a go but just don't have the time for some serious learning of it all these days. Enjoy!

RE the Olympic photos I think the most important lesson is to have some control over the editting and selection process especially if your name is going to be on it. I remember the most reasuring things when I first went to a bike weekend with Rich was he takes bum shots as well.

Just to add my 1p worth ... I heard someone call it "Mummy Porn" ... reckon that's a good description! It's caused such hype and I really don't know why ... like Mrs C I read them in a couple of days and was very unimpressed. It's a romance novel with some naughty bits in it (and of course, they're PERFECT naughty bits too) ... load of rubbish!
