Agreed. While we all love the summer i find i get better exposures when its overcast. On bright sunny days i find my 50 f/1.4 performs very poorly unless stopped down quite a bit. The 40 seems to not be as phased by high contrast scenes.

Im dying to get some rain drop shots. Not having a garden means i have to purposely go out in the rain, and so far im doing my best to avoid it lol.

I keep forgetting (and then being pleasantly surprised by) the fact that the MFD is a lot closer than with the Nifty Fifty. I used to take a lot of pictures of flowers, etc with my old 50 1.8, but I was often limited by the long-ish MFD. (Same with the MFD on my 100 f2).

So I started a thread in the hopes of tracking which lenses have had issues with the AF in an effort to determine if this is a potential problem with all lenses OR if it's just a bad batch or two. If yours is affected, please post your serial number (if you're iffy about it, just use "XXX" instead of the final 3 digits), so we can track what's going on and hopefully help future buyers of these lenses make a more informed decision at the store!

hahaha love it...I actually really liked having my 50 1.8 on my 1D3 for a few reasons...it made the camera significantly lighter and smaller, and I could put it down on the desk without it tipping forward

This setup may tip backwards due to the lack of weight.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Just got a text from the shop, and apparently the shipment has been delayed...I'm going to ask around other shops...no idea on the revised ETA...it was so close too!!!

I'm really into the whole light setup thing and really tempted to get this, but i already have the sigma 30 and 50. What do you guys think?

I've got the sigma 30 too and it's the only reason I'm not pulling the trigger on this little wee biscuit...otherwise I'd be all over it...

Easy...no matter which one you sell, you'll still be within 10mm with the 40, so FL doesn't matter. The 50 1.4 is one of Sigma's best...keep that. The 30 1.4 is a great lens, but I think the 50 is the winner of that pair...

i just sold my sigma 30 and got this lens. i don't regret it at all.

the t3i body with this thing attached is so small it can fit into very small purses, so there's no need to take a camera bag out and about (which is what i was always looking for)!

Same here. I'm using it with a T3i as well, and I'm able to carry it in a decent sized handbag. So I guess it makes it easy for us girls (or boys too maybe). This lens has solved my major problem with dslr shooting, and am now able to carry it around all the time for the most part.

haha i was referring to sticking it into my girlfriends handbag. she's not too pleased at first, but quickly forgets its even in there. i take my dslr many more places now thanks to not having to drag around a camera sling.
