Sigma 17-70 OS Focus Issue (Works at wide end, pulses at tele)

I just picked up a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 OS.

It focuses lightning fast at 17mm, but when it is exteneded to 70mm (or anywhere semi-telephoto), the focus pulses back and forth at least 6 times before it finds focus.

I think this is unacceptable, and it might just be my lens. I can focus quickly on the same spot at 17mm, but if i try that same spot at 70mm it takes at least 10 quick back and forth pulses before it catches.

Has anyone else had this issue?

this guy has had the same problem here it looks like..

"BUT, and a big but, and likely to be a one off, mine appears to have loose OS elements, (I beleive its these anyway) that effect zooming, it goes crazy in the viewfinder vibrating back and forth, and has done this once while focusing. This problem has only just happened today, and within 6months. I cant find anything about this around though, so may just be an isolated incident. Buying new from Jessops you will be fine with the warrantee. Im sure any lens has its "issues" with people. "
