First time fireworks

So last night was my first time trying to capture fireworks. So I get there 30 minutes early get tripod and everything set up and I think I'm good to go. Then the fireworks start and I'm way too close...... so here are my best few. Let me know what you think.

Looks good to me! I had my 'first time fireworks' on the 3rd of July as well up in Rock Hall Maryland. I took roughly 100 photos within an hour and about 68 of them came out immaculate.

Other than that..., for first time fireworks they came out great!

very nice! may I ask what was your setting and lens you used?

I was using my Tamron 28-75 f2.8 lens on my Canon 7D, heres the settings

manual focus set to infinity
len was as wide as it would go (28mm)
f9 to f13
4s to 8s exposure
iso 100

I tried as short as 1s and as long as 10s but that 4-8s range produced the best.

Nice pictures! I like how the colors came out. Do you have any that are uncropped that show the surroundings? (this can be tough when shooting fireworks)

It's virtually impossible to shoot fireworks without a tripod and have great results. Any subtle wobble of the camera will show up as wobbly fireworks, which really never look good. A sturdy tripod and a remote shutter are pretty much a necessity.

I did look at your flicker though.

I did use a tripod, and that was as wide as I could go. I guess this gives me an excuse to buy that 10-22mm I've been wanting!!

These are very good...better than most of the ones I have seen...or taken!

Not that anyone can ever do anything about it, but I prefer the ones were the smoke isn't so visible... that being said, #4 looks amazing! Nicely done.

The only thing I think that could make it look any better would be to either crop some of the top or to add some black space to the bottom of the frame so that it was a bit more symmetrical.

They look so great!! Nice job for your first try. I don't think you were too close at all.
