Ditto downunder.
It gets down to how much room you have available. If you have the space, why not use it.

Erm, that's not how you use a focussing rail xD. Why didn't you just buy an off camera flash bracket, or did you already have the rail?

It's not using it as the manufacturer suggested that makes the picture. It's taking a tool or accessory that can't be used in that way and then making a successful picture that make it great.

Wow!!! For real?? Is the setup shot showing the light you actually took the photo and the filter you are using is giving the resulting shot?

Can you detail the setup you are using? i.e.. Camera filter trigger etc...??

First off the set up shot was taken perhaps around 30 minutes before sunset.. iPhone shot too so it wasn't anything special.

Waited for the light to be right, that shot was taken perhaps 30 minutes after the sun went down and it was still dusk, it was bracketed a few exposures and combined in photoshop.

I used a Hasselblad H2 with Phase One P45+ digital back and HC 50-110 zoom lens at 50mm, with a Lee Wide Angle Bellows hood to reduce reflections in glass (got rid of them entirely but still had to shoot through a stupid window)

I used a 2 stop grad nd filter to make the sky and the park a little darker than the bottom of the frame.
