Over on the SM forum they said you have to add some sort of code/paypal to do the orderes yourself. It sounds like a pain to setup, I cant even switch over my domain to smugmug yet. :D

Switching domains is pretty easy. Look at the SM forum, they have step by step if I remember correctly. I had SM now zen.

the instructions they said to point my domain to my smugmug account was pretty confusing. it asked me to go somewhere in godaddy to point somethign at them and I have no idea where that thing is. I asked for help and the reply was even more confusing. :) Ive been to busy working/marketing/etc to spend the time to figure it out, wipe my website and get a good template going. I wonder if they would flush the account for me instead of going in and erasing folder by folder. hmm. I should just schedule me a day to work on the website, at this rate my year will be up and I wont have changed anything. :)

I've been using Zenfolio going on four years now and love it. And love the ability to mask my domain name is sweet as well.

I use Zenfolio and have figured out the domain switching thing. As far as pricing goes for prints, I have not set up to sell prints yet (make a profit on them), but did use their service for my nieces pictures. I uploaded to a "private" folder, gave her the password and link, and she could print at "my" cost to her hearts content. Worked great.

I think smugmugs prices are higher than what I am use to, but I think they added a new pro lab, and im pretty sure you can set coupons for certain people. But ive heard that you can "hack" your way to the original file on smugmug and bypass the watermark and steal the image, something to do with google images I think? So that is a concern but I dont know if its true or been fixed yet.

I really want to make it easier for people to order more from me, and to quote something I heard the other day "money is like water, it will follow the path of least resistance" or something like that. :)

I have zenfolio and it is inexpensive, but the look of your “site” is really outdated and you are limited with being able to customize it. I don’t need a prefab website though, so it might be helpful for those without a website already. It was $100 for a year when I started and I had a 20% off coupon. I would never use zenfolio or smugmug as my primary website so I will not be going with either next year. I’ve been looking into Collages.net but I’m not even sure they have what I want.

You don't have to use SM/Zen as your main site. Use them as cheap backend to your main site. It is more easy to do so with SM than Zen. And where else you can get unlimited backup for $100/yr?

Gerrydavid, call godaddy and they can walk you through what you want to do. I have found their customer service and tech support to be very good.

Why would you never use SM as your primary site? you can *supposedly* customize the medium and pro account so it looks like a normal website, the only thing is it has smugmug in the very bottom of the page, thats the only way you can tell its on their server. :)

Having the $3500 package seems like it may help clients feel like they are getting a good deal when booking for less. That is, unless your clients are actually freaking out. I love telling potential clients my highest price first and then offering a more economical rate. Seems to work...most of the time. :)

I've had feedback in the form of the high school hall rumor mill. All the kids came up to me one day and were shocked I had a $3500 package and were commenting on how expensive I am.

There's a photographer in our area that has bonuses that kick in at $2000 and go up to the $7000 level. Anyone ever had a $7000 sale?

That might not be a bad thing... ;) People do love to spend money and not have to tell everyone how much it was, while enjoying knowing everyone knows it was a lot. Thats why people drive BMWs and Mercedes right?

Oh...well, from what I've seen I would want you for my daughters photos in 16 years.

I have two websites with Smug, see links below.

Very very good system.

I had a website for another business that cost m £3,500.00 to build.

Then something changed on the Net and I had to pay another £1,200.00 to keep it going just to keep up with the technology.

People often think having their own website is cheap, but it wasn't for me, in time or money.

Smugmug deal with the backend for £120.00 a year...

That is dirt cheap and excellent value...
