tried the Vista download the other night and it booted but came up with a message saying this recovery options isn't compatiable. Weird. I hunted round and tried a few different language settings but to no avail. Anyone advise? Otherwise its whip the drive out and copy off the data then wipe. Thing is it was a preinstall vista, reckon I could try a win7 install using my win7 key I have for my main PC?

I think you said this was Dell, I thought in common with oh so many computers these days they have a hidden partition with the recovery 'image' on that...............I cannot recall how you access or indeed whether it will have the functionality you need so just a FWIW feedback for you :)

yeah my original HD had that partition but DELL replaced the HD without the partition so thats no longer an option.

Gonna buzz them in a mo see what they say.
