What would be your pick as the "best" lens to be a dedicated to landscape photography? Why would you pick that lens?

It's easy to want a very wide lens for landscapes but most landscape photos I like show
a narrower view of the landscape. Maybe consider 2 lenses?

My favorite "do-all" lens for scenery/landscapes/travel was the 24-105. At F/8 it was sharper than you needed and could go from wide to some decent compressed views for varied looks.

Sold it as I haven't been traveling as much... Lots of awesome shots from all over Europe with that lens...

As has been mentioned in many forum posts, any lens can do landscapes, just depends on what "view" you want of said landscapes.

Hi Rob,

Well, even for full frame it often wouldn't be a single lens...

Most often I use 20/2.8 and 24-70/2.8. Sometimes 24mm and 45mm TS-E lenses.

But, I'd consider 17-40/4, too. That would probably be the most versatile single zoom for landscapes, and still reasonably priced and not too big or heavy.

I don't like just wide, so I'd say 15-85 for crop and 24-105 for FF. Gives you very wide to moderate telephoto in one lens.

Now If you said 2 lenses, I'd get something like a wide TS-E and sharp telephoto zoom.

I browsed through the entire Samyang 14 thread last night looking at samples. Pretty impressive.

I know the general mindset is that a landscape lens has to be wide angle but I've seen many well done shots with a telephoto.

Any lens that will convey my idea of the landscape I am looking at. In many cases that will be about 40 to 50 mm FF for AoV, but quite often I'll use a shorter or longer tele, or WA or UWA, all depending on the subject. In short, I wouldn't be able to recommend a single lens, as I would need at least several :D.

Kind regards, Wim

full fame:

TS-e 24mm II
shift - increase field view
tilt- increase or decrease DOF with same aperture

TS-e 17
if you like ultra wide
you can use a 1.4X converter but will affect IQ
same reason as above

for crop:

EFs 10-22
great IQ and range
