For being such an older camera, these people look like they stand up strong into today's standards. Might pick a body just to have it.

It's absolutely worth having if you have a spare 3-450 dollars lying around and are aware of the limitations (near impossible to have serviced, poor high-ISO performance, banding when pushing ISO, 4MP lack of crop-ability). Just make sure you buy one that HAS a charger. If the batteries are shot, that's no problem, Lenmar makes great replacements, but the charger is worth more than the camera. I've seen quite a few in the 300$ range with a charger, but I was just thinking about the limitations. This would be a back-up and primary body, whichever I decide to use (40D or this). Worse case scenario, the sensor goes and I sell the charger to fund another body, aha. e=mc ** 2

This is not really an issue-- see my previous post about using an ebay RC charger that handles NiMH. It was $30 bucks, and you can manually set your charge/discharge current (so you can lower it to 100mah which is better for the battery) as well as have it cycle numerous times automatically. I can confirm it charges up a battery fine, in fact I bought an ebay battery and the charger gave me charge stats so I could see the effects of cycling and how it improves the charge/discharge capacity with each go. It improved the capacity from about 1100mah to over 2000mah after a few cycles. Even if you have the OEM Canon charger that alone seems worth the purchase to have this take better care of your batteries! Some bodies, some lenses, and that's all I'll list in case the wife sees this.

While I agree with you, and have dabbled with plenty of batteries and charger setups from my long and expensive days in RC (who'd have thought I'd wind up with a MORE expensive hobby...) so I'm perfectly aware of the things you can accomplish if you're willing to tinker.
