Any suggestions for a well padded soft lens case that could be used with the Canon 800?

Thanks.

Mike

Lowepro Lens Trekker 600 AW II Backpack takes the 800mm without the camera attached. Actually I've just checked and it looks like the 800mm is only around 3 inches or 7.5 cm longer than the 500mm. If this is the correct then the 800mm with a camera attached should fit in this backpack with the hood reversed. My 500mm with TC and camera attached still has loads of space left.

I use Kinesis long lens cases for my 600/4 and 300/2.8. The L521 will take the 800/5.6 with body attached if the hood's reversed. The cases have an excellent protection to weight ratio.

Thanks guys. The consensus is either the Lowepro Lens Trekker 600 AW II Backpack or the Kinesis Long Lens Case L521. The Lowepro comes with removable shoulder/waist straps. Best I can tell is that they have to be purchased as separate items with the Kinesis.

Can the harness be removed?

If you were buying one would you get the L521 or L620?

Carry strategy for 800mm in the field.

In discussing this issue with a friend that also has an 800mm I realize that my real problem is needing something to carry the lens safely on a hike when I do not want to carry it while it is on a tripod.

I have a Think Tank belt, a small TT backpack, a Cotton Carrier, a Vested Interest vest, a small vest, and so on. I can also pull my transport case with the 800mm inside if the area permits. I use one of them depending on the situation. However, none of those setups would safely allow me to carry an 800mm in the field. My thinking was that a lens case might work in addition to these setups.

What do 800mm owners do when in that situation?

Thanks.
