The reason I went with the grip is that I use LV alot and the it kills one battery pretty quickly. A downside? Not really if you have back up batteries. :)

LoL yes, I'm not a grip fan/user, but oh man, the D800 battery life is just awful when using live view. I dunno what it is, but it sucks down the juice like a..uhh...i dunno, was trying to make some athlete and steroid reference, but i'm too tired. :( /cry

Hehe! I'm not gonna complain about it. Everything else about the camera is great despite all the negativity it's been getting since it released. :)

Being a landscape photog I can capture images like this with the D800. Should I be upset? Not a bit. ;)

If you're happy with Canon that's all that matters. Although, I honestly appreciate the extra DR of the D800. :)

Here's another image from my recent trip to Emerald Isle, NC.

Shot with the Nikon 14-24.

It's like having a mini medium format camera but, I definitely know it won't match MF for detail. :)

I honestly don't get what you're saying. If the 5D 3 is a good fit for you, then be happy. Atm, I'm deciding whether or not I should cancel my 1D X and get the 5D 3 instead. :)On top of that I can make NEF files look similar to Canon. It's just a matter of clicking a color profile. :)

Thanks KC. :o

I did this and went dual 5D3's... my gigs weren't waiting for that release and I didn't feel like putting all my eggs in one basket.

Love it! Just got back from southeast alaska (out in middle of nowhere, Hobart Bay), but weather was pretty crap, crap light, other than one day. I put on sunscreen, but somehow managed to get third degree burns on my back and shoulders, have big swaths of missing skin and huge blisters, super painful. Got a few good shots, but nothing as good as last year....lol...and the halibut catch was rather disappointing ~...lol

Thanks David. After using the D800 for this trip, I'm really convinced this camera does what it's supposed to do. :)

Just curious - how can you have the time to take vacations, take photographs, process them, eat, sleep, take care of your hygiene, have a life and post 10,000 times a year (a bit more really so far). That works out to be almost 30 posts every day...I'm impressed (but I guess that's pretty much your objective).
"Nikon? Canon? Why choose? Just own both like I do!" ???

:)

Peace,
D.

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!

I had too much trouble with Nikon, sadly. I loved them but the picture quality/focus etc was just not making me happy compared to my Canon. Truth is I preferred the Nikon ;-)a I think it was a 50/50 chance with technilogical equipment it could have been a flip of the coin and gone the other way, but I needed full frame for as cheap as possible and a 5D classic is AMAZING camera. Thats what got me to switch to Canon. The 5D classic and the 50L won me over.

QUOTED IMAGE

I have been thinking of adding the D800 as well, but the 5D III would have no problem taking this kind of shot. BTW nice shot;)
