Why keep the unfocused flowers in the foreground?

Mainly color. He is just at rule of 3rds. I cropped it pretty heavily BTW. I actually had another 1000 or so pixels to the R of flowers. Just like the way it makes him pop a tad more. BTW I desaturated this about 20% also.
