National Hovercraft Racing Champs.

First day out with the 1DX. These shots were from the National Hovercraft Racing Championships at Towcester UK.

great shots, i had no idea people raced these things. favorite is #4, i can see the drivers eyes.

Great shots, but as this is at least largely on water, does it come under "Motorsport" ? Regardless very much enjoyed the pics

Do they have motors? Are they participating in a sport?

Same here - but they look way cool to shoot.

They were fun to shoot, very fast. But you need to keep your eyes peeled as they don't really respond to rider input and don't change direction very quickly.

The organising club were very helpful to the photographers, making sure that they could take photos from places that the normal spectators were prohibited from.

Thanks for the comments. Thier helmets and visors get splattered with mud and water from the propellers of other hovercraft.

How fast are these hovercrafts moving Looks pretty intense!

I would estimate 40-50 mph on any surface! What makes it very exciting is that you can't really change direction this side of a week so the pilots need plenty of forward planning.
