Awesome? It's my first time playing with film, I didn't even know how to put it correctly in. Shutter sound is awesome, I'll use it a bit on my shoot tonight, I hope the rolls that came with it are still ok, they expired in 2004 :p

Nice toy David, I have an AE1 but the non program version and an fm2. love them for shooting black and white.
The colour on those expired films may be a bit off but may come out looking very cool :)
Have fun with the new toy!

Yeah, probably gonna give some interesting side effects. I have been using some expired stuff, but it's kept pretty close to color. Expired in 2008.

Quick stupid question. When you guys are editing something to post here let's say. Do you change the image size in photoshop. Like IMAGE>IMAGE SIZE>1024xwhatever? Then upload to say flickr or how do you do it? I've been resizing, then save for web, then uploading. I'm not sure if I'm losing quality doing that or not.

Quick rant, damn car show photography is hard, harsh light, people in the way, cars parked close together, etc etc.

I use DPP for initial processing. Use CS5 for the rest, resize and sharpen last. I just use the image resize. Not save for web. I only use that, for avatars. I like to use 2048 for the longest dimension.

I still have about 150 shots to convert to digital, from my original AE-1, of our mountain climb in Colorado in 1989. I was a horrid photographer, back then. Well...more horrid, I should say. I was only 20yrs old and didn't know a camera from a wheel. Probably why half the shots had camera shake. If only I knew then, what I know now. Bleh.

OK. Now I'm just embarrassed that I didn't spot the R & B connection in those photos. So now I guess I'll just switch off the internet and turn in early.

Do you ever take a shot and think "man this will look cool" and then it doesn't? That was this shot. I'm really down on myself as a photographer at this point. I'm starting to think I don't have the eye for it.

Honestly dude, I know how you feel. I am 100% left brain, no musical talent, couldn't draw if my life depended on it, etc. But, I absolutely love photography, and so I just keep trying. It's kinda like golf for me: I can hit 20 **** shots in a row, but when I get that one good one, there's no better feeling.

Only every time I load my pictures into the computer.

For what it's worth, cars are pretty hard to get REALLY right. I have very few shots of cars that I look at and say "awwwweyeahhh".

Oh absolutely. When that happens, I usually do one of two things: put the camera down for a day or two (or week, depending) or take a solid lens back to an easy spot, like a garden or public market, when the light is good then just shoot whatever I see with no expectation of the outcome. Either one (especially if combined with some sleep and de-stressing) is pretty much a recipe to get my game back, so to speak. Option C: get in the car and just drive until I see something I HAVE to shoot.

Honestly, though, in the long run just keep at it. My 365 project has been a HUGE help for this. While I'm not up to the talent level of some folks around here, just the fact of using the camera every day, working with light and aperture and DOF has made me a lot more comfortable in knowing what's needed to get the shot I see in my head into the camera then out onto the screen. Now, I'm not saying every single day I can get that, but it's a LOT easier than it used to be.

And as someone else said above, I have basically no artistic talent elsewhere - can't draw, paint, write, and shouldn't sing.
