Thorrulz Goldmember  More info | Jul 24, 2012 21:13 | #3 In tests of the Rokinon i've seen the wide open side is closer to f/1.6 than f/1.4 so there isn't really much difference from the Canon f/1.8 once you stop down a bit for optimum sharpness. I have the Canon 85 and it's autofocusing is fast, fast, fast. Did I mention it was fast? It's also one of the best bang for the buck primes in image quality Canon makes. So if you can pick up a Canon 85 for the same price as the Rokinon I would lean towards the Canon in this case. Flickr

I cant find a huge number of reviews of the Canon, as they seem to trend twoards the 85L rather than the 1.8. Any thoughts on which way to go? Canon 85 1.8 is a great lens. I've had the 1.8 and the 85L - not that much to choose between them for sharpness. Plus - resale on the Canon will be excellent and you'll get your money back on it if you want to sell.

Or rather, the willingness to practice focusing. Both are great. The Rokinon is quite well made and sharp. So is the Canon but it has autofocus too.
