I just realized I've never posted to this thread. I like this lens for sports generally, but will use it for wildlife as well. I usually use my Canon 400/5.6 for birds, but will travel with this one.

How does this lens compare to the 120-200F2.8 OS in terms of AF speed & IQ?

I've never used the 120-300. It doesn't focus anywhere near as fast as my 400/5.6 and doesn't have the same IQ, but it can be pressed into service for BIF.

After reading this forum and many many doubts and comments from friends to get a canon 70-200 f4, I have bit the bullet and bought one of these The newest version (according to Sigma UK)
Can't wait for it to arrive and get a play
I have a fair amount of pet photography to do and most are in ther natural surroundings rather than pointing a lens right in their face so hoping this lens will be a perfect addition

This bird and the butterfly were shot at dawn with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II:

The only think I wish the 5D Mark II had is more than the 3.9fps. If the bird takes off, I cannot shoot a series of shots, by the time the second shot comes, the bird is gone. My Pentax K5 has 10 fps. I may have to get a Canon 7D at least to use with this lens.

It's not a photo until you print it!

Has anyone used this lens with a Canon 1.4x or 2x extender? Or the sigma extenders? I tried it with a kenko extension tube and the results were horrible, would not focus.

I have both the Sigma 1.4x and the 2x extenders. I have used them with the lens, but have not been impressed with IQ.
