The only rumor I've heard that makes any sense (marketwise) is an entry level FF at a lower price point.

update: so I've heard it is actually the 1Ds MkIV and its due for release early next year, not September.

it's due to have the same ISO as 1DX and 32mp.

Crossing my fingers. I'm buying the next high megapixel camera that Canon launches. I'll (begrudginly) buy it for whatever inflated price as long as:
- 1D body size and shape
- high megapixel (over 30)
- greater than 5 FPS

Not being a professional photorapher, I really hope it will come it at equal or less than $7K.

Sighs, if it's going to be a high MP camera (as much as i want it to be) and it's going to be over 4K, i'll be a bit upset. As much as I love my Canon glass, i'll might as well make the switch to the D800.

I'd really like to see them do that in a 5D3 body. I find the 1D's just too big for my hands, when I first started looking at Canon I talked to a friend who has a couple of 1D4's, and he (wisely) advised me to hold and try one before buying.

Right now, my favourite subjects are my kids so I shoot a fair amount in portrait orientation on a tripod. I do like the grips on my 5Ds though. That said, I've only ever held a 1D body for brief moments at either booths at dealer shows and the C.E.S. Do you feel there is I big difference between gripped bodies and 1D bodies?

Something with more MPx and FPS than a 5D3 would be something I would consider buying.

I'm used to the 7D 8 FPS for action shooting and don't want to be much slower if possible. Loss of the crop zoom on FF would be mitigated by having more MPx to crop from for better framing.

The smaller 5D3 body form would be preferable to a 1D body form for me.

:lol: Todd, you've reminded me of one of my favorite Bugs Bunny shorts: "The Sherrif of Nottingham." Seriously though, I do hope a 3D is coming; would be a very cool thing! :)

You know what would be really cool? A no-compromises high resolution camera dedicated to photography. ;)

It appears that there are 2 FF cameras being talked about.

One is the entry level sub $2K FF with 7D like features. Basically a 5Dmk3 with a few features taken out, especially a severely cut down autofocus functionality.

The other one is this one which is a 36MP or 40MP. I am guessing it will be the 36MP model as, although Canon can build a 40MP, they won't do so as they would rather dip twice -once with 36MP and then an incremental 40MP model rather than losing the opportunity to capitalize.

This would be Canon's answer to the Nikon D800.

The problem is Canon has messed up the pricing big time with their recent releases and have put themselves in a fix! For such a D800 response camera to succeed, it has to be comparatively priced to D800 (about $3K to $3600) range. But then that kills the 5Dmk3. Price it higher and the product is a laggard as far as sales are concerned. Most will gravitate towards the significantly cheaper D800.

I am guessing Canon will play dirty again and launch the 36MP at a barely under $4K pricepoint but will but kill a couple of features over the 5Dmk3 to keep the 5Dmk3 viable. I am thinking they will also drop the price on the 5Dmk3 to $2899 or so pissing off many early adopters of the 5Dmk3.

They just got way too greedy and locked themselves into price ranges that could quickly become their Achilles heel.

Nikon played it smart this time and really have an awesome product with the D800e at $3k range.

The 1 series doesn't really get updated every 3 years, they've had split 1series lines, but if you compare the update cycles on them its much longer then that.

1ds2 -> 1ds3 -> 1dx?
1d2 -> 1d3 -> 1d4 -> 1dx?

The big problem is that while the IDx is a superb camera, its not an update for the 1Ds3. It leaves a whole section of the professional community in a quandry - Do they buy a 1Dx or ditch Canon and move to the dark side?

I'm hoping against hope that Canon will realise their error and offer a 1Ds4 sooner rather than later. They can name it whatever they like to save face.

I think it's interesting that Canon only has the 1Dx representing their 1D line on their US-site.
I wouldn't be surprised if they wedged in another 1D body at some point.
