New 20D user here! Just picked it up used 20D as a complement for my 60D (and for travelling/hazardous environments). This one has a few minor cosmetic blemishes consistent with it age, but otherwise in perfect working order.

I remember borrowing a friend's 20D a few years ago and thinking, compared to my then 400D, it was a much classier beast (and had far better noise control). I do like the 20D's thumb-wheel and joystick better (and the shutter sound is much sweeter than the 60D's dull thud), but it's been a while since I used a camera with a 1.3 inch screen! Also, it doesn't recognise the Canon 15-85mm lens, so I have to adjust the CR2's EXIF data so that DPP will apply lens corrections.

But whatever: takes great pictures.

I love my 20d, have taken loads of pics with it and I have been considering getting a 60d, what does everyone think of it? I'd love a 5dii or 7d but just can't stretch to them right now. Also, I really could do with some advice on the best 'good value' lenses.

You haven't posted a website, so "'good value' lenses" for shooting what? And what's your budget?

As for upgrading my 20D, I just don't have a good reason to do that. This Nikon shooter agrees with me that it still does a pretty good job:

Good point, I shoot landscapes, portraits and long exposure night shots, a bit of everything really. I have the 18-55 lens that came with the camera and I bought a 55-250 zoom lens. I know lenses are expensive and am willing to go up to about £400, am currently watching a couple of nifty fiftys on eBay but would just like a bit of advice on good, simple lenses which I could use for any of the above.

I started out with a 20D and 100-400L. I use it exclusively for more distant, long exposure work now.

Just been out with the 20D and my Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (non-VC version). It's like rediscovering the lens (which never got along with my 60D which is now undergoing a second AF calibration --- or maybe 18 megapixels is pushing the limits of the lens's optics...), the two go really well together.

Some really amazing pictures and it really is a shame that you are using a 20D on that. You should really take a look at this site:

I think you should also take a look at the Canon EOS 60Da which is specifically designed for the type of pictures you are taking. Here is a review

Yes, i have to do this too, and it gives my 20D a second life in Lightroom 4.1!
Processed .cr2 from my old 20D with the 2012 algoritms giving me some serious quality, doubting newer cams would be much better aside the higher resolution.

I use Exiftoolgui, what about you?

Plain old exiftool:

LOL... still using mine and love it as much as the day I got it more then 4 yrs ago. I have put a lot of shutter actuations on it and she is finally starting to get a little long in the tooth. With a good recalibration from Canon she could be a great camera again, alas come the beginning of the year I will be selling her with the Phottix grip and batteries to help fund my EOS-M w/ EF-s adapter purchase.

EDIT: Scratch that, I have decided to throw it up on the FS forum with the grip, batteries, etc.

Yep, i just got a 20D as my first DSLR, still finding out how it works but I just love it. No plans as yet to replace it with a 40D or a 60D, as I am still having too much fun...

It's a great camera to cut your DSLR teeth on. Taught me a lot about taking a photograph and how to use settings. Now I hate using anything that does not have at least an Av/Tv setting so that I can do my own playing. I never really got comfortable with full manual settings but oh well.

Had to take a picture of the bottles for a friend in work so started playing with the aperture and focused on the odd one out. Looking forward to trying them. :)

My 20D is still working perfectly. I got some new scratches but it is no problem! :)

Even though I have the "upper end" bodies now, I still have 2 20 bodies in my roller bag. I'd probably sell em if I had a decent offer.

The 20D takes really good photos. I've got a 7D now, but looking back through my old photos I have to look at the EXIF data to see whether I took it with the 20D or the 7D
