So I just got a 500 from adorama for 6100 in e+ condition with 6 month warranty so I couldn't pass it up. I hope is it is good otherwise I have all of you to blame. :). Now I just have to wait for brown to show up.

Yes I saw that lens listed . It started at $6500 and then went down after a week. You got a good deal. Good luck with it

Hopefully there wasn't a reason for it. :)

I must say, I am really impressed by anyone who can handhold a 500/4 IS "99% of the time" or "all the time". Sure, I'll carry mine in a backpack or over a shoulder mounted on a tripod all day long. But in shooting position I'm good for handholding it about 5 or 10 minutes, then it goes onto a tripod or monopod.

you ever see a picture of jay the flying photog? he's one big mother. in his hams the 500L looks like the 300L f4 :D!

Man very nice price. These going for much higher now. I kick myself for selling mine for $5200 when newer versions got announced.

no they lowered it because it was not sellling for $6500 so they went down to $6250 and then it was gone a couple days later. I bet they only gave some where around $4500 for it so they still did fine selling it for what you paid. Enjoy it

I just checked on b+h used site and they will give $3500 if you sell it to them so adorama' right with them. Seen them on here asking as high as $7200 to $7500 so you did excellent since you got a 6 months warranty and E+ condition

So I got my 500 last night from adorama and I think they made a mistake. I think they sent me a brand new lens with a UT date coded lens mount. :). There isn't a mark on it anywhere. It literally looks brand new with the trunk, keys manual, warranty card and strap. I do have to say it is much bigger than the pictures tend to look. I can't wait to go shooting with it on Saturday. If it works as good as it looks I think I got a good deal.

Most wildlife guys take good care of their superteles. Not so with sports guys.

Congrats on your 'new' lens... Many of the wildlifers I've seen have noeprene camo covers on their lenses. Must help avoid bumps and scrapes..

Can't say much on the 300L but I can say I love the 500L. It's sharpness is amazing and in bright sunglight doable for handheld shots. I love this lens, just wish I could afford one myself.
