I purposely took a road trip back in November from Miami to Pensacola just to tour the museum and see the Blue Angels practice.

Gear: (rented) Canon 60D with Canon 18-200 kit lens

Here is the gallery: NAS Pensacola (external link)

and here are some samples:

Some epic detail in the aircraft carrier 'miniatures' (the thing was still ~7ft long lol)

Now something I would like to address, that occasionally floats around the forum in the form of a question; let me preface:

I chose the practice session (full airshow that coming weekend) for two reasons: smaller crowd and easier access to the 'pro' area. And I accomplished both.

Again all I had was the 60D and the 18-200, my HAWG military camelbak (water, etc) and a baseball cap ...... zippity doo .... right into the roped off area. There were only about 6 photogs anyway.

It gets better ... I didn't even ask ... "you guys go over here". Ok.

and then the Blue Angels. : D (I'd put the smiley but the **** thing counts as an 'image' lol)

Nice shots...

Did they fly the T-2 buckeye they are towing out?

Thanks!

I don't remember seeing it go up. There were several other towed planes as well. I wondered why they didn't leave them where they were lol.

If it was just to roll hardware in front of those who made the effort to come out .............. well I was fine with that :D

thanks!

It was a great trip. One day was enough to rush through the whole musuem (there were actually two buildings with a third being completed) but not enough to drink it all in.

The whole museum, all of it, is privately funded.

Thanks for sharing! I'm in Pensacola and always like when new folks visit and see some of the cooler things it has to offer. Did you happen to check out the light house on base? Cool place to take shots as well.

I didn't know about the lighthouse.

Any reason to go back is good enough :D
