A great shot. That's a very difficult shot to capture as I have found out by photographing many Grass Snakes myself. You did very well.

Carl - The snake is a Natrix natrix. (Known as the Grass Snake or Ring-necked Snake in Europe)This one looks like a male to me. Plenty of information about them on my website here:
