I picked up one of these off craigslist today for my wife. Not too much experience with anything other than point and click cameras, well I can do a panoramic on my droid, but it still looks terrible.

Anyways I did not check out the camera very well because I didn't know how and it has a problem; I was hoping someone can help me determine the problem + solution. It will not autofocus. When in autofocus mode and the shutter button is half way down you hear it clicking and trying to do its thing but no focusing occurs. Do you all suspect it is just the lens or the camera as well? Any hope that we can get this working? The lens is the Image Stabilizer EFS 18-55mm; I believe it is the stock lens.

In manual mode everything seems fine, then menus and such work fine, and the camera aesthetically is in great shape. I have tried restoring it to factory settings.

First step would be to isolate if the lens or body is the problem. Should be relatively easy - take it to a shop that sells EF lenses and try one out. If the AF works, you know it is your kit lens. If not, the people at the shop can probably tell you about what it might cost to have the body fixed.

Get mine back from a warranty repair tomorrow and can't wait. I've been using my brothers 600D and apart from the screen I'm not all that impressed by it, the 1000D files have a "nicer", which is subjective, feel to them

Came back after the following work was done

"Fitted new circuit
AD - adjustment
720 - Checked and reset all functions"



So, it has to go back to the "repairers", and I use that term loosely. Still randomly taking shots of it's own accord, shutter button refusing to work at times, sensor absolutely filthy compared to when it was sent the first time and af all over the place ......So I have to be without my 1000D for another two weeks ......I'll probably have my 5Dc before then

Hello XS fellows, I currently own an XS with 18-55 / 55-250 / 50, and so far I have been very happy with everything, however my daughter's ballet recital its comming up in 4 months and I know with out a flash I wont be able to get decent pictures with poor stage lighting and the kit lenses.

I know I can use the 50mm f1.8 at iso 1600 and get some got shots but then I will be very limited due to no zoom, my question is what to upgrade ? my zooms (faster lenses f2.8) or my camera (good high iso)

My budget its about ~$2000, I wass thinking in getting the sigmas 17-50 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8, but Im not sure if I will still be limited to the xs max iso of 1600 ?

Or mix&match sigma 17-50 + 7D ?

btw I dont do video or use live view at all so those features really dont matter to me.

The other option would be to invest in another system (nikon or pentax), please share your opinions.

The EOS 7D is very noisy even at ISO100 just to let you know. The 70-200 f/2.8L IS II is brilliant lens but I think the ISO 1600 would still limit you. I would probably buy a 5DMK2 second hand for around 1,400$ or something and a 24-105L for 700$.

Where do you get this NON sense that the 7D is noisy even at 100 ISO. Thats incorrect information. If you do not know what you are talking about please refrain on passing your own MISGUIDED opinions as facts. You do not know what you are talking about, plain and simple and its not the first time either. Please do not spread this type of incorrect information. Its processor is shared with other platforms which are doing fine at that, and other ISO ranges...are those noisy too?? Jesus...

To anyone looking for good info about the 7D please ignore that post and do a little research from other sources than that post.
