Just ordered one. I hope it's as good as everyone says. We're heading to the UK in September for 10 days and I wasn't looking forward to hoofing my big Manfrotto rig around. This one looks to be much more portable. I think I'll end up swapping out the head for my magnesium Manfrotto head, though.

Can you remove the ball head and replace it with manfrotto ball head?

I just received mine and replaced the head with a Manfrotto 498RC2 -- works great and so much lighter than the Manfrotto 190XPROB it was on. It is still sturdy with my 5DIII on it.

Got my tripod. The legs are decent. Very light and sturdy enough for most uses, although at full extension with my gripped 7D mounted, it's a little shaky. But at that height, the viewfinder is at my eye level, and I'm 6'-3". I think the trade-off from the my Manfrotto 055XPROB for travel is worth it, though.

I'm a little miffed because my ball head came damaged. Costco just stuck a shipping label on the tripod box and shipped it without putting it in an outer box. The box came squashed, although I don't think it damaged anything. But my ball head pan knob is broken. The knob just twists off the screw instead of winding the screw out to loosen the pivot. Like someone at the factory overtightened it. I was able to extract the screw and reattach it to the knob, but once it goes back into the ball head, the knob just twists off again. Maybe some Loctite will fix it. I had planned on replacing the head anyway, so I guess I'll live with it.

That's odd. Mine arrived today (city roadwork not withstanding - go UPS!) well packaged inside a separate box with air-pack padding. Bummer about the damage to yours.

I got mine today and it was not packed in a separate box, just the original box with a label on it. There is no damage, everything is fine. For $80.00, it's pretty darn good. The ball head is not too bad either, it hold my 7D with grip and 24-105mm lens with no problem. I'll try it with my Sigma 80-400mm EX and see how that holds up.

Interesting. Maybe it has to do with which warehouse it was shipped from (assuming Costco ships from multiple warehouses?)? Mine came out of Auburn, Washington.

Mine was packed (or unpacked) just like M_six. Box smashed up. I was a bit upset, but relieved to find no damage.

Same here. Costco did not put it in shipping box. It just stuck the shipping sticker on the retail box of the tripod and shipped it via UPS. Not a very professional way to do business online...
