FWIW, you can put the T2i in Monochrome picture style to learn to see better B&W. If you're shooting RAW, the color info is still there and you can change your mind in post. (I keep meaning to do this but...)
Yup, surprised me when I loaded my shots into lightroom when shooting in B&W and they were all in color the first time.
To the op about B&W: A lot of times I will take shots in color, though and know that when I load it up and edit that a black and white image will be more appealing. Unfortunately I have a bad habit of keeping single photoshop files and such for one image, so I don't always have originals and am too lazy to go back to lightroom to show you an example.
And hey, worst case scenario you press a button in LR, PS, or whatever to see how the image looks in black and white instead, you don't like it, just undo.
