I'm sure there may be better choices in glass, but for the money, it's a good compromise in image quality/budget. I usually carry my 70-200 f4 as a compliment to it when I need a bit more reach. 5D Mkiii, 7D, G11, 15-85 f/3.5-5.6 IS, 50 f/1.8, 24-70 f/2.8 L, 24-105 f/4 L IS, 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II, 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS, Sigma 10-20 f/3.5-5.6, EF 2X III TC, 580EX ii, 430EX

I use it for about 85% of my shots with my 60D. In fact, it's the only lens I took to Machu Picchu last January, and I got excellent results in all situations from people to landscapes to ruins. Based on POTN, it seems that most owners think it's a great lens. Hugh

I'll throw in a vote for the 15-85, mine seems to be on my 7D when my 100-400 isn't. 7D MKII ■ 10-22 ■ 15-85 ■ 28-135 ■ Σ 50-150 ■ 70-200 f4L ■ 100-400L ■ 580EX II

Almondsaz wrote in post #14817617 ![]() My walk around lens is the 24-105. I have not tried the 15-85 but know there is a lot of utility in that range. I have never been disappointed with the ability of the 24-105 in the wider end. Not knowing what you shoot makes it a bit more difficult. We are all just sharing our preferences. Yesterday I was limited with the 24-105 on the wide end shooting on a crop. Some outdoor portraits where my lighting was being triggered by a 40" cable. I had a couple of groups that were larger than I thought and I didn't want to back up because I didn't want to pull my lighting back. I should have brought the 5DII, then not an issue. 15-85 would look good, I like constant aperture lenses though and the 17-55 would be more than I'd want to spend on an EF-s lens. It's always a compromise. Would you like to buy a vowel?
