Any suggestions on a good walk around lens for my 7D?

I currently have the 70-200mm L IS II and LOVE it but its very heavy and isnt as wide as I would like at times.

thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I find that my EFS15-85IS is an ideal walk around lens for me on my 7D. I'm sure there may be better choices in glass, but for the money, it's a good compromise in image quality/budget. I usually carry my 70-200 f4 as a compliment to it when I need a bit more reach.

^^^ Another vote for the 15-85 IS. It's a great lens and very sharp. I use it for about 85% of my shots with my 60D. In fact, it's the only lens I took to Machu Picchu last January, and I got excellent results in all situations from people to landscapes to ruins. Based on POTN, it seems that most owners think it's a great lens.

+ 1 15-85, if you don't need something faster. It's my outdoor walk-around lens on my 50D

I'll throw in a vote for the 15-85, mine seems to be on my 7D when my 100-400 isn't.

Ditto.

The 24-105 is a great lens, but 24 would not be wide enough for me as a walkaround.

My walk around lens is the 24-105. I have not tried the 15-85 but know there is a lot of utility in that range.

I have never been disappointed with the ability of the 24-105 in the wider end.

Not knowing what you shoot makes it a bit more difficult. We are all just sharing our preferences.

1) 15-85
2) 18-135
3) 24-105 f/4
4) Sigma 17-70 OS f/2.8-4
5) Sigma 17-50 OS f/2.8

It all depends upon how wide you want, how fast you want it, and how long of a zoom.

Yesterday I was limited with the 24-105 on the wide end shooting on a crop. Some outdoor portraits where my lighting was being triggered by a 40" cable. I had a couple of groups that were larger than I thought and I didn't want to back up because I didn't want to pull my lighting back. I should have brought the 5DII, then not an issue. 15-85 would look good, I like constant aperture lenses though and the 17-55 would be more than I'd want to spend on an EF-s lens. It's always a compromise.

IMO your 1-3 are perfect.

No opinion on Sigma as I've never touched them.

I settled on the 18-135 for my cropper for flexibility of range. I was willing to trade off a bit of IQ for the price.
