The slow focus of the 85L is killing me. I've got the 50L and 135L for portraits, and I think the 70-200 would really help for events, which I'm shooting more of.
Thoughts?

If you need the faster focusing, you won't be disappointed with the 70-200. From what I hear, your 135 may be going up for sale soon also because the 70-200 rivals it... 7D l Canon 70-200 f/4L IS l Canon 85mm f/1.8 l ∑ 17-50 f/2.8 l Canon 50mm f/1.8 II l S95

Chasing my kid with it is nearly impossible.. but when you get that shot it can't be replaced. Wide open at 85mm with the eye in focus can't be beaten. A 5d3 on AI-Servo helps a lot. 5D IV | 40D | 16-35 f4 IS L | 35L | 50L| 85L II| 135L | 70-200 f2.8 IS II L | 400 5.6 L | MP-E 65 | 100 2.8 Macro

I love the 85L and it definitely has it's place in the bag but is real limited to what you can do with it compared to the 70-200. If both were on a table in front of me and was told to pick one I would take the 70-200 without hesitation. I have found so many more uses for the 70-200 than the 85L. There is no way I would trade my 70-200 for an 85L. I would jump on it before they change their mind. I love both of these lenses, but if I have to pick one, tough decision, then I would go with 70-200. 1DXMKII | 5DMKIII | 7DMKII | 16-35 2.8L II | 24-70 2.8L II | 70-200 2.8L IS II | 85 1.2L II | 100 2.8L | SIGMA 50 1.4 ART | SIGMA 15 2.8 FISHEYE | (3) 600EX- RT | 055CXPRO4 + 498RC2

You must have decent to good light to have enough speed to shoot handheld at 200mm without IS. IS on 70-200mm II is awesome! calvinjhfeng wrote in post #14822137 ![]() I think you should do this, Sell 85L II for 70-200mm F2.8 IS II (since you've already made your mind up for it.) Now 135L is redundant, sell it and sell 28/1.8 to upgrade to 24L II. Now you got 24L II 50L 70-200mm F2.8 IS II, damn that's my dream set up. I think 50L and 85L are kind of close in range, people usually choose either. I really like how you think. Thanks for planning my dream setup! Website
